Fall Homebrew Competitions

Even though you should all be attending Beer and Sweat, there are also several other area homebrew competitions you should attend.  Show your support of our fellow local clubs!

Dayton DRAFT Brewfest – September 10th

DRAFT cordially invites you to participate in the sixteenth annual Dayton BrewFest homebrew competition. This event consists of a BJCP sanctioned homebrew competition beginning at 9 AM at 1400 East Fifth St. Dayton OH 45402.

The judging will take place in open sessions on September 10th. We will make every effort to secure qualified BJCP judges. Register to be a judge at www.daytondraft.org. Judges and Stewards will be awarded experience points in accordance with the BJCP competition rules. Judges will also be supplied a sticker with their judging information on it for their judging forms. The competition will begin at 9:00 AM however we request that Judges and Stewards arrive by 8:30 AM for assignments. Local drop-offs and hand-carried entries should arrive by 8:30 AM as well.

Every effort will be made to return score sheets with judges’ comments promptly to all entrants. Handsome wooden plaques, generously provided by contest sponsors, will be awarded for flight winners. Second and third place winners will receive ribbons. Awards will also be presented for Best of Show and Best of Dayton. Winners will be announced at the Awards Banquet and pot-luck held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 6 PM at the Liederkranz-Turner building 1400 East Fifth St. Dayton OH. Scoresheets and awards may be picked up in person at this time. Those scoresheets and awards not picked up at the competition will be mailed later. Winners will also be posted on the DRAFT website.

Dayton Art Institute Oktoberfest Home Brew Contest – September 17th

If you are interested in judging (and getting BJCP credit) for the Dayton Art Institute Oktoberfest Home Brew Contest, please let me know. This is the third year for the contest and we are hoping to continue our growth again this year.

Judging will take place on Saturday September 17th, starting late morning and going throughout the day based on the number of entries we receive.

Son Of Brewzilla – September 24th

Son of Brewzilla is SNOBs 2nd annual BJCP sanctioned homebrew competition. We need YOU to help make this event a continued success. Last year, we had an unprecedented 418 entries from homebrewers near and far. This year, entries will be capped at 400 – I encourage ALL of you to enter and to enter early.

Judging will take place over 2 sessions on Saturday, September 24th at Fat Head’s Brewery & Saloon in North Olmsted . I will have more information as we get closer to the event but wanted to give you plenty of time to mark your calendars to be a part of Northeast Ohio’s largest homebrew competition! For now, here’s the important stuff:

Fat Head’s Brewery and Saloon

Time: 1st Session starts promptly at 9am (light breakfast served prior); 2nd Session will begin after a catered lunch.  Judges Appreciation Dinner will follow along with an Awards Ceremony.

Entries: Two 10-14 oz. bottles will be accepted. (Beer bottled in other vessels will be drunk immediately.) Entry deadline is September 10th. Entries should arrive at Fat Head’s, September 11-17. Cost is $7 for the first entry, $5 for each additional entry (Paypal preferred; checks will also be accepted.)  Judges who enter by the deadline can bring beers day of but are strongly encouraged to have them in earlier if possible.

CMI’s Oktobersbest Zinzinnati – October 22nd

Hello all it is that time again for CMI’s Oktobersbest Zinzinnati 2011.  Registration is now open.  Please enter your Homebrew for the chance to win Best of Show.  The Best of Show winner this year, just like last year, will get to brew his or her beer on the Professional Brewing System at Rivertown Brewing .  That beer will then be presented at the next upcoming Cincy Winter Beer Festival @ The Duke Energy Center.

This years competition is being held at the Radisson Hotel Cincinnati Riverfront. We have a special room rate at the hotel for both Friday and Saturday. Just mention Cincinnati Malt Infusers, “Oktobersbest”.  For reservations contact:
