Beermas 2017!

See dedicated post put up today (12/4) with information about each day’s location.

Upcoming Classes at Listermann’s

There is an Advanced Brewing Class on December 7th (all-grain), $20. There are four or five spots left, tell your friends to sign up now!

Bockfest 2018

Committee led by Roxanne, Tyra, Pete B. and others (TBD) to do a Tasting and Beer Evaluation session for the public at Bockfest 2018. There will be a registration fee for the session, more details coming closer to Bockfest. Please let us know if you’re interested in assisting with this mini-Beer Camp!

Also, look forward to a new event at Bockfest! Christian Moerlein has asked us to expand the homebrewer’s footprint at Bockfest. As part of that, they want to add a new category to the homebrew competition to highlight the ingredients that the German brewers of Cincinnati would have used before prohibition. Fifteen teams from BBL, CMI, and Cincinnati State’s Brewing Program will be competing to brew the best Pre-Pro Lager with identical grain bills, hops and yeast provided by Christian Moerlein.

Possible Topics for Next Year’s Meetings

  • All Things Yeast
  • Yeast Experiment
  • Mashing Chemistry
  • Decoctions
  • Brew-in-a-Bag Techniques
  • Safety (5-10 minute topics before formal topic for all meeting)
  • Beer Swap Night
  • Blending Night (TRASH Guest)
  • Factors that Affect Efficiency
  • Fundamentals of Kegging

Chime in with additional suggestions!

Beer & Sweaters

There is scheming of a bus trip to visit our friends in TRASH sometime in February or March 2018 (hence Beer & Sweaters). Cost is TBD, but likely $75 for bus, plus hotel cost…and whatever you’re drinking. At this point, we have several potential stops lined up. Stay tuned.

Potential Mentorship Program

Wayne is writing up a proposal to present to the board regarding a possible mentorship program to help connect potential new members interested in learning to brew with Bloats willing to mentor them.

Proposal to Add Board Position

A proposal was offered to the board to make the Competition Coordinator a board position. A written resolution will be prepared and distributed to all members via email and also presented for a vote at the next meeting of the club on Saturday, January 20th.

Meeting deteriorated into yelling at the Bungles at 8:31 PM.

Have you recently toured a brewery, been to a new favorite beer bar, or have some other beer related news you’d like to share with the club? Let us know and we’ll include it in the newsletter.
